9. Men’s Artistic Gymnastics 2025 Recap
The year 2025 in men’s artistic gymnastics was defined less by revolution than by refinement. With the Paris Olympic cycle behind them, federations and athletes focused on consolidating gains, managing longevity, and testing new directions ahead of the next quad, based on the new Code of Points. Across competitions, routines became more strategically composed, reflecting a deeper mastery of the Code of Points rather than a simple escalation of risk.
Difficulty remained high, but execution increasingly separated contenders from the rest. The stuck landing bonus made the dismount decisive. On pommel horse, precision, rhythm, and reduction of form breaks shaped rankings more than headline difficulty (execution scores > 9.000 show this trend). High bar continued to reward those able to include upgraded elements like the Walstrom or the Liukin, and balance connection value with controlled dismounts.
A notable trend in 2025 was the coexistence of generations: established leaders adapted their routines to preserve consistency, while younger seniors entered the scene with ambitious compositions, sometimes prioritizing difficulty at the expense of reliability. This contrast made competitions less predictable and tactically rich.
Finally, 2025 reinforced a broader shift in men’s gymnastics: success now lies in intelligent routine construction, technical efficiency, and competitive maturity, sInce the difficulty value of a routine is now the combined total of the 8 elements with the highest value instead of 10. The year felt like a quiet but important reset, laying technical and strategic foundations for the battles to come later in the quad.
