2026 European Gymnastics Championships: MAG Full Recap

2026 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships

The competition took place in Zagreb between August 19 and 2026. It welcomed more than XXX gymnasts, who competed in 8 events: Teams, All-Around and the six apparatus finals. The Championships served also as a qualification for the 2026 World Championships in Rotterdam.

The 2026 European Gymnastics Championships featured a condensed schedule that concluded with the Senior Team Final on Sunday, August 23. The competition served as a crucial qualifying event, with the top 13 teams and top 24 all-arounders not on a qualifying team earning berths to the 2026 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

All-Around Final

The All-Around competition was determined on the inaugural day in a dramatic manner: Illia Kovtun achieved victory with a total score of 82.833, securing the win by the narrowest of margins, a mere 0.001, during his international debut representing Croatia. Arseniy Dukhno, competing neutrally as “WG2” on behalf of Russia, claimed the silver medal with a score of 82.832. His teammate, Daniel Marinov, earned the bronze medal with a score of 81.899.

Defending champion Adem Asil (TUR) withdrew, and 2025 silver medalist Leo Saladino (FRA) was out injured. 2024 champion Marios Georgiou (CYP) finished sixth, Joe Fraser (GBR) seventh.

Senior Team Final

Great Britain secured the gold medal in the team final, continuing their dominance on the continental stage. The British squad, led by Olympic medalist Harry Hepworth and World Champion Joe Fraser, successfully held off challengers to retain the title they first won in 2025.

It marked Russia’s first participation in the European Championships since 2021, following the lifting of their ban by the European Federation. The team underwent a complete renewal, featuring a cohort of younger athletes. Switzerland solidified its status as one of the preeminent leaders in Men’s Gymnastics in Europe by earning a bronze medal, having secured a silver medal the previous year.

The gap between the first and the second team was also particularly low: 0.570.
