Ryu Sunghyun had already secured his spot after the Baku World Cup thanks to his outstanding performances in the first three competitions. The main contenders for the second spot were Yahor Sharamkou, Benjamin Osberger, Eddie Penev and Aurel Benovic. The Croatian gymnast got 25 points thanks to his 4th place in the final and will go to Paris 2024.

Jordanian Ahmad Abu Al Soud was in a very good position after the latest World Cup in Baku and winning the gold medal in Doha made him unbeatable. Nariman Kurbanov was a good contender but could have been challenged by Olympic silver medalist Lee Chih-kai. Despite Lee’s impressive routine and 2nd place, Nariman maintained his position and will compete in Paris.

Still Rings

Another crowded event with top specialists from France, Armenia, Azerbaijan and North Korea. Vahagn Davtyan won gold by a 0.033 margin over Nikita Simonov, which granted him 30 points and put him in second place. Samir Aït Saïd will represent France in Paris (the first and only French male gymnast to be qualified so far) and will take part to his 3rd Olympics.
Vault

This is a complicated one… Shek Wai Hung of Hong Kong won his ticket although he didn’t qualify for the final in Doha but his previous performances were sufficient to get him a ticket. For the second spot, James Bacuetti was in a very good position and finished in 5th place, making him the 3rd eligible gymnast. Audrys Nin Reyes won his berth to Paris at the 2023 Pan American Games as part of the Men’s Gymnastics Continental Championship route for the olympic qualification. In the qualification process, it is the 7th criteria.
The World Cup series is the 6th criteria. As a result, his olympic qualification has not been made official by the FIG, which means that Audrys was still an eligible gymnast in the World Cup Series in Doha. When he ranked 4th in the final, he was granted 20 points (although he didn’t choose this path for Paris and these points are basically useless). Consequently, James Bacuetti got 18 points, which was not enough to overtake Mahdi Olfati, who already had a total of 72 points.
This situation requires a certain level of mental gymnastics. The FIG is following due process and has officially announced that Shek Wai Hung and Mahdi Olfati were qualified. Audrys Nin Reyes’ berth has also been confirmed. The 2024 Olympic Qualification process can be hard to follow…
Parallel Bars

Angel Barajas of Colombia, who is only 17, finished first in the ranking on Parallel Bars. The fight for the second spot was tight and eventually, Rasuljon Abdurakhimov of Uzbekistan snatched the ticket
High Bar

Tang Chia-hung of Taiwan had already secured his spot after the Baku World Cup. The second place concerned mostly Robert Tvorogal of Lithuania and Arthur Nory Mariano of Brazil. Yet the 2019 World Champion on this apparatus needed to reach the 1st place to obtain the necessary 30 points and Robert Tvorogal was able to outrank him in the final.
