The 2025-2028 Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Code of Points has been published. Here are the main changes in the evaluation of the exercises.

This article includes the updates released by the FIG in August and October 2025

Updates about Floor’s one leg balance element, Parallel Bars’ Gatson style elements and the EG Dismount value.

2025-2028 MAG Code of Points:
General Information

All information based on the 2025-2028 MAG COP published 3 July 2024

Number of Elements (except Vault)

Back to 8 elements:  The difficulty value of a routine is the combined total of the 8 elements with the highest value. That’s the best 7 (with a maximum of 4 elements for the same Element Group) + the dismount (except on FX)

Element Groups Values (except Vault):

Number of skills by EG (except Vault):

Stuck Landing Dismount Bonus

In the 2025-2028 MAG Code of Points, on all apparatuses except the Pommel Horse, gymnasts will receive a 0.1 bonus if the element is rated at least C, and for vaults with saltos in the new Code of Points.

Other

The 2025-2028 MAG Code of Points includes an update for touch warm-up on all apparatuses: 50 seconds (the previous code stated 30 sec. on all apparatuses except Parallel Bars and 50 sec. on Parallel Bars, including bar preparation)
Connection Points may be awarded only for directly connected recognized high value elements performed without a fall.

Floor Exercise

Duration

70 seconds

Element Groups

Group 1:
Non-acrobatic elements
Group 2:
Acrobatic elements forward
Group 3:
Acrobatic elements backward
Groups 4:
Single salto forward and/or backward with 1 or more turns
No dismount EG
(Note: it means that some elements, which used to be in EG II and III are moved to this group in the 2025-2028 COP, like the layout triple twist front (Shirai II) and backward or the layout quadruple twist backward (Shirai/Nguyen)

Composition

The same diagonal may not be used more than 2 times in a row (0.3 neutral deduction if not performed)

Only 1 strength skills allowed
Only 1 circle, flair or Russian element allowed
The highest elements in the entire 2025-2028 MAG COP are the Nagornyy and the Jarman, both rated J (=1 point).

Gymnasts must show a balance element on one leg; it may be performed outside of the counting 8 elements. The elements 61 (rated A) and 62 (rated B) can be performed for this.
This new rule was updated in August 2025 (see below):

Last Tumbling Pass & Stoi Bonus

A multiple salto element is required for the dismount for Seniors (0.3 neutral deduction if not performed)
Stick landing after the dismount (elements C+) will be awarded with 0.1 bonus by the D-Jury.

Update August 2025

After six months of practice, the FIG’s Technical Committee issued an update concerning the Balance Element On One Leg, highlighting it as “one area that has received consistently negative feedback”, as stated in the newsletter.

The introduction of this rule was to integrate acrobatic elements with various gymnastic components, including strength, balance, flexibility, and choreographic combinations.

Allowing a gymnast to choose skills that lend themselves to his favored ability, whilst at the same time encouraging choreographic combinations that show harmonious rhythm between tumble passes, will ultimately improve the overall balance and appeal of the floor exercise.

Therefore, the gymnast must show either:
– a one leg balance
or
– a jump/leap with or without turn from the list of specific elements.

The balance or jump/leap may be outside the counting 8 elements. A 0.3 neutral deduction will be taken by the D Jury if this requirement is not fulfilled.

Allowable elements:
a. EGI.67 Jump backward to front support (A)
b. EGI.68 “Endo” – Jump backward with pike-stretch or with 1/1 turn to front support (B)
c. EGI.74 “Tong Fei” – Butterfly with 1/1 twist forward or backward (B)
d. EGI.75 Butterfly with 2/1 twist (C)
e. EGI.15 Jump forward with 1/1 turn to front support (A)
f. EGI.16 Jump backward with 3/2 twist to front support (B)
g. EGI.17 Jump forward with 2/1 twist to front support (C)
h. EGI.43 Jump forward with ½ turn to momentary handstand (A)
i. EGII.8 Dive roll with 1/1 twist (B)
j. EGI.73 Stag Leap with 1/1 turn (A)

III.65 Any 3/3 travel in Russian-type wendeswing with 720° or more turning (Wu Guyonian)
III.70 Any Russian wendeswing with 360° t. and 3/3 travel (Roth).
2/ Tong Fei style travel elements:
III.57 From support on 1 pommel, Russian wendeswing fwd. to other end without support on or between the pommels (side to side support, side to cross support).
III.58 From support on end, Russian wendeswing fwd. to other end without support on or between the pommels (side to side, side to cross, cross to side, cross to cross) (Tong Fei).
III.59 On the leather, from cross support, Russian wendeswing with 360° or more over both pommels (Vammen).
3/ Nin Reyes style travel elements:
III.22 Travel fwd. 3/3 with ½ Spindle from one pommel over the other pommel (Nin Reyes).
III.23 Travel fwd. 3/3 over both pommels with ½ Spindle (Nin Reyes 2).
For example:
• Nin Reyes (III.22) + Nin Reyes 2 (III.23). D jury action: Rep + E value

Update August 2025

Scissor recognition:
In the case of scissor elements, where the gymnast supports themselves with their leg before completing the element, the element will not be recognized and receive 0.5 deduction for interruption of exercise without a fall. Scissor elements may be recognized if there is a small arm bend, or slight touching of the horse with 0.1 deduction for each.

Bertoncelj to side support:
Bertoncelj (II.57) may be performed to either cross support OR side support on one pommel. Therefore, a Bertoncelj to side support on one pommel may begin a flop or combined sequence.

Update August 2025

Start of exercise:
A cast, consisting of a maximum of three swings, is permitted in order to begin an exercise without deduction. Each movement forward and/or backward counts as a swing. Further, either a jump to a swing or a coach pushing the gymnast into a swing counts as a swing.

Grip Changes:
An additional grip change is considered an “additional or intermediate hand support” and will be deducted 0.1 each time.
Examples include:
– Zou Li Min to mixed grip followed by an immediate grip change will be deducted 0.1, but the Zou Li Min is recognized.
– Adler 1/1 turn to mixed grip followed by an immediate grip change to undergrip will be deducted 0.1.
– Endo, Kip or Uprise backward with overgrip followed by two consecutive grip changes to undergrip will be deducted 0.1 for the second grip change
Elements in mixed grip (Giant Forward, Endo, Uprise backward, Kip etc.) followed by one grip change to undergrip will not receive a deduction.

Uprise backward to Free hip circle:
As a mount, if a gymnast performs an Uprise backward to support followed by a free hip (or other movement) they will receive a 0.3 deduction for Reversal of Direction (CoP 15.2.1.2.d) If no support is shown during the swing rearward, then there will be no deduction. Support is when the arm angle is less than 45° from arm to body.

Kovacs Style flight elements:
A salto backward. with ½ turn over the bar (II.82) and Gaylord 2 (II.83) are considered as Kovacs style flight elements when applying the special repetition rule, which allows a maximum of two elements of each flight style.

Five Flight Elements:
The gymnast may perform a 5th flight (EG II) among the 7 counting elements if at least two flights are directly connected (minimum C+C).
